Meklit Hadero
Meklit Hadero is an Ethiopian-American vocalist, songwriter, and composer, known for her electric stage presence, innovative sound and vibrant cultural strategy. She was Visiting Artist with Stanford's Institute for Advancing Just Societies and the Institute for Diversity in the Arts in 2024-25, and Lecturer with the Department of African and African American Studies, where she taught, Movement: Migration, Songwriting, and Multi-Platform Storytelling, a course delving into the powerful intersection of migration, music and artistic practice. Through intimate storytelling, collective study and creative practice, the course covered migration as a critical, intersectional issue. As part of her work at Stanford, Meklit also co-hosted, Music & Migration Remixed, a multi-track event that brought together scholars, musicians, and activists to discuss how community and relationship building can help make sense of the current moment.
