Krish Seetah is an Associate Professor in Stanford's Department of Anthropology and a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. His research integrates archaeological science, environmental history, and cultural anthropology to examine human-animal relationships and environmental change, with particular focus on the Indian Ocean region, Africa, and the Caribbean. Specializing in zooarchaeology and island archaeology, Professor Seetah explores themes of colonialism, slavery, and environmental transformation through innovative analytical techniques including isotopic analysis and ancient DNA. He is Director of the ‘Mauritian Archaeology and Cultural Heritage’ (MACH) project, which studies European Imperialism and colonial activity, and has conducted extensive fieldwork in Mauritius, Madagascar, and South Africa. Seetah earned his Ph.D. in Archaeology from the University of Cambridge and has published widely on past foodways, animal domestication, and ecological change. He is also a recipient of an Institute for Advancing Just Societies Faculty Seed Grant.
